There are many balls to choose from, and of course there are plenty of dresses to choose from, too. There are quite a few options, which to some extent are limited by the dress code for the balls – so it is important to match your look to the occasion. When it comes to jewellery too, we can go for something bigger and more special at a ball, so that we can sparkle as brilliantly as the lights on the dance floor. But what jewellery goes with what dress? Not every type of necklace works with every type of décolleté cut, and if your dress has a high neck you will need something different from what you would select for a deep V cut.
Sparkle through the ball season
In Vienna, the ball season is the unofficial “fifth season”, and for us personally it forms a beautiful, sparkling transitional period between the festive season of Christmas and the start of spring. If you wanted to, you could probably go to several different balls every week – there are so many exciting parties from the end of January onwards. If you decide on a high necked dress, we recommend that you go for a close fitting necklace which ideally can actually be worn over the dress. Wear your hair up to make your neck appear longer, and to create space for a beautiful pair of earrings that will go perfectly with your necklace.
If you go for a deep V neck look, don’t wear a necklace – after all, your decolleté look will attract enough attention on its own. Instead, we would opt for a striking pair of earrings, and also a bracelet. Particularly with long-sleeved dresses, a bracelet worn over the material creates a beautiful effect.
For dresses with very thin straps, we prefer necklaces that emphasise the neck and do not attract too much attention by sliding down into your décolleté.
Dresses with asymmetrical cut very rarely look good with a necklace, so here also we would opt for big, low-hanging earrings that draw the attention upwards and frame the face beautifully.
